Human Settlements Portfolio Committee inspects City housing projects

Human Portfolio Committee Chairperson Anda Ntsodo and Committee members travelled across the metro to inspect projects in some of its furthest corners. Oversight visits are an important part of the Committee’s work, holding the City to account.
The City’s Human Settlements Portfolio Committee conducted an oversight visit to various projects to check on their progress. Projects visited included:
- Dido Valley in Simon’s Town
- Gugulethu Infill in Gugulethu and Nyanga
- Greenville Phase 5 in Fisantekraal, Durbanville
‘Conducting oversight is an important part of the committee’s work and one which we take seriously. The committee will continue to monitor these projects to ensure they are progressing well and homes are handed over to beneficiaries as soon as possible.
‘The City’s Dido Valley project is significant as it will assist residents from the Redhill informal settlements and the Luyolo restitution community. The project in Gugulethu is especially meaningful as previous contracts were terminated due to poor performance. The City took over the project and it has since progressed well. Visiting Greenville is always an interesting experience as it makes use of new building technologies which allow for faster and more efficient construction.

We thank all stakeholders for a productive oversight visit and as a committee, we remain committed to ensuring the City performs, is held to account and protects the delivery to Cape Town’s most vulnerable residents,’ said Councillor Anda Ntsodo.
The City would like to remind residents that beneficiaries of City housing projects are selected in accordance with the City's Housing Allocation Policy and Housing Needs Register to ensure housing opportunities are made available in a fair and transparent manner that prevents queue jumping and to those who qualify for housing as per the South African legislation. The City's political office bearers do not have access to, nor do they have influence over the Register and its qualifying beneficiaries.
